The ‘Wow Factor’ desirable or cliche?

For years people have been talking about the “WOW factor” especially with regards to Interior Design. In the past with the introduction of so many new building materials and technological innovations the WOW factor was frequently evident, but what new innovations have we had? Stack stone, bi-folds, plantation shutters and touch screens no longer get a WOW they are common design elements.

Do we still desire the WOW factor or is it time for the focus to be on achieving a more subtle but ultimately more satisfying balance of personal aesthetic and lifestyle? I think the interior design of a home may or may not have a Wow factor but should always have it’s own personal style balanced with a functional design.
